Going to watch this movie with my girls this coming holiday. Hahaha, .. exam hasn’t started, this Mummy starts holiday planning already 😛
My Mum introduced this movie to us when we were young. Yes, my Mum. She is super cool 🙂
It’s about this arrogant phonetics Professor Henry Higgins, who took a bet from Colonel Pickering that he could transform unrefined, dirty flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady (yes, the real lady), and turn her Cockney accent into a proper English.
Well, Eliza really spoke ‘weird’ English. Still can remember the “Loverly” song at the beginning of the movie. Yes, “Loverly”
And it’s fun to see those lessons she had to endure to correct her English.
Oh ya, the professor is truly ‘arrogant’.
Just some thoughts

on:“Girls, can you please help to water the plant?” said I, only realising it at noon, after fetching them from school.
“Ok,” answered Ying.
“Mummy is too busy today,” I tried to explain.
“没关系. (Never mind) We understand,” added Ying.

I parked the car too close to the car next to me. I opened the door for my girls to get in, so that they won’t ‘bang’ or ‘scratch’ the car next to me. While entering the car, Ling said sincerely, “Thank you, Mummy.”

Having such a loving girl like you two, 没有遗憾 (no regrets).
I picked up this book for my girls, something different. It’s a story about the Aztec empire in Tenochtitlan (now Mexico) during the year of 1511, before the kingdom was destroyed.
Something related to history, and give a little glimpse of how people live at that time, what they believe, how they trade (‘bartering system’).
Got it from the Wolf at RM5.
Learning

on:This is another series I collected, actually way before the BBW. As what is written at the back of the book, “An excellent introduction of Shakespeare for junior reader”.
Popular is selling at RM19.90 normally. Once I got a few at RM6.90 during Popular sales. It’s quite hard to find. And during the last BBW sales, they were selling at RM5 only. But I only managed to secure “The Tempest” and “The Taming of the Shrew”. I am still missing:
- A Midsummer Night Dream
- Romeo and Juliet
- Richard III
- Julius Caesar
Hopefully, can get these 4 this time.
Was too ‘down’ recently, as usual, blood test and those reports time … but got to pull my self up again. Buddha teaching “All right. I have experienced that emotion. I recognize that emotion. Now I need to detach from that emotion for a moment.”
And then, the Big Bag Wolf comes … hehehe
ee… I think the Ang Pao money is going to be swollen by this wolf again :p
Well, let me share what I got from last BBW.
I got the below 3 classics at RM1 each. Yes, just ONE RINGGIT! And those are good classics, by Charles Dicken, Mark Twain, and Hugh Lofting. And they are suitable for children in primary school.
Ling couldn’t help sharing the Dr Dolittle story when she read it. “Do you know at first Dr Dolittle is a human doctor, then hor … ” she went around telling the story … hahaha
Read an article “Can IELTS be taught at lower levels ?” at http://blog.britishcouncil.org/2014/02/03/can-ielts-be-taught-at-lower-levels/?utm_source=facebook-teachingenglish&utm_medui%C2%ADm=wallpost&utm_campaign=bc-teachingenglish-facebook
The below from the article gives some ideas to me as well in teaching my children English.
Practice tests
Students often concentrate on doing practice tests as they think repeated practice tests will improve their performance. Although test practice can be useful, repeated practice at lower levels without language work rarely improves their IELTS performance, and students should be discouraged from this approach.
At lower levels, students need to concentrate much more on increasing their vocabulary and grammar knowledge. It would be more beneficial to test students regularly on the vocabulary and grammar they have been studying in class. Then they can move on to applying this knowledge to small sections of the test before attempting a whole practice test. Full practice tests can be introduced to students when they have enough language and test awareness to be able to see their progress.
First time watching movie in cinema during Chinese New Year. We went for this movie《一路有你》, and it’s a good one, suitable for family. It’s a story about the encounter of a conservation Chinese old man and a westerner son-in-law.
My girls like it and couldn’t wait to share it with my housekeeper about the ‘sofaman’. And for the first time my hubby didn’t fall asleep in cinema watching ‘non-fighting’ show… hehehe.
And not forgetting, wishing everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
