History related to Portuguese coming to Asia

While reading this book “Who was Ferdinand Magellan” whowasferdinand,

I accidentally learn something related to Melaka history. We all study the fall of Melaka to Portuguese in year 1511  in our history class. But we never learn much about Portugal at that time.

Let me share the missing picture here.

For 800 years, Arabs has control of the Spice Route (as shown below). Together with their trading partners in Venice, they sold the precious goods for high prices.

Interesting! If the split was the other way round, we would have Spanish Settlement Village instead in Melaka now.

The subsequent development we all roughly know.

In 1488, Bartolomeu Dias dias sailed around the tip of Africa and discovered the Cape of Good Hope.

In 1498, Vasco Da Gama reached India. vasco

And in 1511, Afonso de Albuquerque albuquerque conquered Melaka.
