I like what is shared by this Taiwan chef 詹姆士 in an article in 天下雜誌:

From learning art to running a restaurant, then join the entertainment line, what James learnt is: graduated from school and step into the society, everything becomes zero. No matter what is on your resume, what is your major or professional knowledge, once you are in the society, you have to put down all these. What important then is: your adaptability, resilience and problem-solving skill.

Whatever you learn from school, bring to the society, strictly speaking, it’s nil. Regardless of how influential or how great you were during school time, you are just a freshman once into society.

I have a daughter, and I hope to nurture these three capabilities in her. Once she got it, I need not be worried for the rest.

First: ability to discern right from wrong;

Second: adaptability to change;

Third: being patient and resilience
